A woman gave birth on a flight to Boston Wednesday morning.

It happened on a n_onstop_ Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam. The flight took off with 131 people on board. It landed with 132.

The mother, who is from Uganda, delivered a healthy baby girl with the help of two Boston doctors while the jet was over Canada.

"The captain wanted to know if he needed to made an emergency landing, and I said, 'By the time we land the baby will be out,'" said Dr. Natarajan Raman, who helped deliver the 6-pound baby girl.

"We did everything in a seat in a small place," said Dr. Paresh Thakkar, who helped with the delivery. "Everybody was helpful. We asked for everything -- gloves and scissors, and by the time I examined her the baby was coming out, so I pulled the head."

"Everybody clapped and clapped for the doctor," said passenger Ashish Nanda. "A lot of joy and happiness."

The flight landed at Logan Airport at 10:30 a.m. and an ambulance took the mother and daughter to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The baby girl is named Sasha. She weighs about six pounds.

According to customs at Logan, Sasha is the first baby ever born on an international flight.
