marriott_main4.jpgDear UNAA Members and friends of Uganda:

Greetings from South West Asia to you all.

As I prepare myself to fly out of the war zone to go and preside over the 20th Annual Convention of the Ugandan North American Association, UNAA, it gives me pleasure to welcome you to Orlando. As an African Immigrant in the United States, I am beaming with pride because after twenty years of UNAA, we are progressively making an impact.

This year's convention is different in many respects: entertainment, career showcase, information being provided by international NGO agencies on how to access project funding, political forum, the Northern Uganda conflict discussion, the Uganda Land Bill, religious affairs, the youth program and social networking. And, UNAA is completely in charge of organizing the convention!

The career fair is under the leadership of Mrs. Pace Seninde, do not forget to bring your updated resumes. The entertainment will be spiced up by the famous Afrigo Band straight from Kampala, don't forget your dancing shoes. United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will explain how to access humanitarian project funding, bring all your questions. Northern Uganda discussions will be led by Ben Keesey, CEO of the Invisible Children, Inc a San Diego, California based NGO with tremendous work in Northern Uganda, Mr. Walter Lam of the Alliance for African Assistance and other panelists as we look at the way forward with the peace process. The Uganda Land Bill will focus on who loses and who gains and the way forward as views are presented. The Political Forum will bring together the Government of Uganda and leaders of the opposition who will highlight Uganda's democratic process and their future plans for a stable Uganda. The Speaker of Uganda's Parliament RT. HON. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi as a special guest of UNAA will address the issue of Dual Citizenship and the ways how Parliament conducts its business.

Locally, public and private officials have been invited to address our members during the three day Convention. Ms. Patricia Flanagan of USAID with several years of experience in coordinating projects in third world countries will show our members how to access the agency's funding. Colonel Steven L. Hartman, with over 20 years of service in the U.S. Army will address our members on the importance of serving in the U.S. military.

The Youth coordinator Ms. Batenga Nakisozi has put together a very attractive program that will draw our youths into UNAA. For religious affairs, the Archbishop of Orlando Diocese, Bishop Wensky will preside over mass on Saturday, morning. Pastor John Baker Katende of the Global Evangelical Church in Boston has put together a great program. On Friday, there will be Juma Prayers that you do not want to miss.

I want extend my sincere gratitude for the support given to UNAA by the business community from Uganda and also the Uganda Investment Authority especially in the form of mobilizing participants for this convention.

Our supporters from the European Union and other parts of the world, we welcome you to Orlando.

Ladies and gentlemen, support us by registering in advance for the convention. All registration for the convention will be closed effective 15 August 2008. There will be NO REGISTRATION PAYMENT at the convention site in Orlando.

Thank you Mr. Alexander Zabasajja and your entire volunteer team for the wonderful work you have done in planning the convention. I also want to thank the local community in Florida led by Dr. Peter Nkedi Kizza for the service rendered and pledged to UNAA.

For the UNAA Board who are working around the clock to ensure that the Convention is a great success, thanks a million. For my volunteer personal assistants who have silently devoted time and effort in the interest of UNAA, I salute you. These are Mr. John Mulinde of Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Dennis Kavuma of Los Angeles, Mr. William Ssenkumba of Los Angeles, Mr. Walter Lam of San Diego, and Mr. Kizza Sseninde of Kampala who doubles as a UNAA Presidential Envoy.

I like to conclude by expressing my gratitude to all UNAA members and friends of Uganda for the support rendered to the board and me at this time. I am very proud to be your chosen leader at this time in UNAA's history.

Hope to see you in Orlando.

Sincerely,

Lt. Frank Musisi
