19410016.jpgThe morning of April 20th, 09 led to the assembly of different Flags representing Marathon runners from all over the world to compete in the 113th historical Boston Marathon the oldest of its kind in the world since 1897.

The Boston Marathon is 26.2 miles or 42.195 km started from Hopkinton Ma, to Boylston St, Downtown Boston. Thanks to the conducive weather and without a drop of rain was a plus for this spectacular race.

Hopkinton was the pick of the prestigious marathon as the starting point, the sign read "It all starts here and welcome to Boston Marathon" the crowd of the spectators were in Hundreds or thousands of people who cheered the Marathoners.

The moment was remarkable with the presence of prominent Politicians like senator John Kerry, other state representatives and the press/ journalists from all over the world. So it was very magnificent as people were holding their respective flags dominant of all was the American Flag likewise I was inspired to show the Ugandan Flag to cheer the marathoners but it turned out my Ugandan friends were not in the spotlight.

The Ugandan Flag with its bright colors and the crested crane it attracted many people at the Marathon and I felt even more inspired that white people and African American were curious to know about Uganda. In fact it was thrilling moment that I met Mr. Jay Arthur and his wife Madeline had just returned from their Ugandan tour, that earned me an Official Badge which allowed me to meet Senator John Kerry and chatted with him about African Heritage International Inc-USA (AFHEInc) which expanded to have Prince Walugembe Othuman Foundation.

Prince Walugembe. O Foundation is dedicated to Ugandans and the development of Uganda. Thus leading to efforts of reviving Sports and Marathon by sponsoring Athletic Ugandans for the UGANDAN MARATHON DREAM TEAM.

The campaign started vigorously on the day before marathon Sunday 19th when the President and Founder met the big congregations of Ugandans in Waltham Boston

The first host Pastor Mutyaba extended welcome invitation and the audience was wonderful as I stood to express my gratitude with my organization brochures and I called upon my Ugandan brethrens that we should fully grab as many opportunities, and I mentioned the Boston Marathon as the a great Bonanza where Ugandans can display our rich cultures and also to run marathon its good for our health but also the advantages are endless.

The second congregation of pastor Katende was amazing and I expressed my thanks, given the many young children and youths/ students in all groups I met it's a precedent that youngsters will set record through school sports program with extra support from the new sports and marathon drive to encourage them to join and train for Boston Marathon possibly one day a Ugandan or -

a Ugandan-American will be the Boston marathon champion.

The Ugandan marathon dream team has a great foundation by word of mouth the campaign spread like bush fire and Fliers were posted in all businesses like Hajj Hassan Lubega's Karibu Restaurant, Friends beauty shop, Kampala unisex salon and the Waltham Islamic center.

The marathon was won by Ethiopian Deriba Merga in men's and Kenyan Salina Kosgei in women's race, and Juxtapose Ugandans used to be great runners like our hero John Akii-Bua as 1972 Olympic champion. So let us believe again "YES WE CAN" as our beloved President Barak Obama again said everything its possible and in his historical victory inauguration speech of Jan 20/09.

In the speech he ensured People all over the World about peace and said "To those Leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or to blame their society ills on the west -know that your people will judge you on what you build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on wrong side of history...."  Those words are loved by all those who are suffering like in Africa.

The training of the marathon team has begun and we call upon students youths and anybody who is capable to come join the Dream team there is hope to get Trainers and utilize the Reggie Lewis center in Roxbury and special thanks goes to supporters of this cause and to Mr. Kalugo Robert with his Ugandanlink website for the great job for the community.

The African Heritage International Inc it's a registered organization and requests for donations and any form of support for this cause in training young marathoners or for educational and cross cultural program, it's plus. It's tax deductible for your donation.
